Terms of Use

Please read before downloading or using chessdroid.

Fair Play — read this first
Important — Fair Play chessdroid must never be used to gain an unfair advantage during rated online or OTB games. It is strictly intended for analyzing finished games, studying positions offline, or playing against computer opponents for practice.
The Terms — six sections
01

Acceptable Use

chessdroid is designed for:

  • Post-game analysis of completed games
  • Studying positions and openings offline
  • Playing against computer opponents (bots) for practice
  • Engine vs engine matches for research or entertainment
  • Learning and improving your chess understanding
chessdroid must NOT be used during or in connection with any rated game, tournament, or competitive match — online or over the board. Using engine assistance in rated play is cheating and violates the rules of every recognized chess organization.
02

Third-Party Engines

chessdroid supports UCI-compatible chess engines including Stockfish, Komodo, Leela Chess Zero, and others. These engines are developed and maintained by independent third parties and are not affiliated with chessdroid.

You are responsible for ensuring your use of any third-party engine complies with that engine's own license terms. Stockfish is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.

03

No Warranties

chessdroid is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The developers make no guarantees about the accuracy of engine analysis, move classifications, or any other feature output.

Use the analysis as a learning tool, not as a definitive authority on any chess position.

04

No Affiliation

chessdroid is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with Chess.com, Lichess, FIDE, or any other chess organization or platform.

Move classification labels (Brilliant, Blunder, etc.) are inspired by common chess annotation conventions and do not imply any formal partnership.

05

Privacy

chessdroid is a fully offline desktop application. It does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. No account is required. No telemetry or analytics are sent anywhere.

Your games and analysis sessions remain entirely on your local machine.

06

Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of chessdroid after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. The latest version is always available on this page.
